Kisharon Langdon’s Bike Shop and other social enterprises will be offering City and Guilds accredited qualifications which could pave the way for more work opportunities.
At the Bike Shop in Bell Lane, Hendon, students can work towards the Level 1 qualification in bike mechanics, and other qualifications will be available soon in horticulture, retail, customer service and administration.
Eytan Bordoley, Manager of the Bike Shop, which trains people from across the learning disability and autism community, as well as those supported by Kisharon Langdon said: “These are proper recognised qualifications, acknowledged and welcomed by employers. We can teach City and Guilds qualifications up to Level 3, with courses lasting from three months to a year. There’s no exam at the end, but a series of course questions to make sure students have learned well.”
Sarah Sharlott, Head of Social Enterprise and Community Opportunities said: “We were required to provide a quality assurance framework and demonstrate that we could teach people all aspects of the units involved. Now we are looking at the horticulture qualification, which we hope will appeal to students at Kisharon Langdon College.”
City and Guilds accredited qualifications in other services are expected to be launched next.
